Where do you turn? (1 Samuel 30-31)

One of the things I appreciate most about David is his inspiring character.  Time and time again we have seen David make the right choices.  In the defining moments of life when character is important, David has been more than impressive because every time he faced difficulty in his life circumstances, he looked to the Lord for his strength.  The unfortunate reality for me is that I too quickly look other places first.  When life hurts and I don't understand what in the world is going on, I talk to other people and seek their advice before I seek my Heavenly Father.  When temptations come and situations arise I seek the counsel of my friends before I seek the counsel of the Lord.  David set an entirely different example.  In 1 Samuel 30:6b we read that "David strengthened himself in the LORD his God."  David could have strengthened himself in many other things, but he realized that this was the most important source of strength.  David didn't go to the Lord last; he went there first.  We should be diligent to do the same.
