Where is the Body? (Matthew 27)

Tomb6
There are a lot of arguments that have arisen over the years about Jesus’ death and resurrection.  One thing that has been suggested is that perhaps Jesus’ disciples stole the body.  Granted they were afraid for their own lives at the time of the crucifixion and were nowhere to be found, but the fear that they might come and steal the body was very real – it was so real that Pilate allowed a guard of Roman soldiers to watch over the tomb to make sure the body wasn’t removed as a hoax.  And so even today, the fact that Jesus’ body is missing is legitimate evidence for the resurrection.  There is no way the body could have been stolen in light of the protection put around the tomb, but it is still missing.  When the disciples claimed Jesus had come back to life, no one said, “No he didn’t; his body is in this tomb.”  The tomb truly was empty, and there was no explanation for the disappearance other than the fact that Jesus wasn’t dead.
