Come near to God and he will come near to you. (James 4:8a)
Your relationship with God is up to you. If you want to be close to Him, then the only thing stopping that from happening is your willingness to put forth time and effort. James tells us that if we draw near to Him, then He will draw near to us.
Among the twelve disciples, Jesus had three that were closest to him. It wasn’t because of his lack of desire that nine of the men weren’t as close; it was because three sought the relationship and did what was in their means to foster it. Just as with any relationship, the time you choose to invest into it determines the value of what you take out of it.
Your heavenly Father is ready and waiting. When you want to give Him a place of priority in your life, He will respond and honor your efforts. The ball is in your court; it’s your move.
Lord, I want to be close to You. Help me not to waste any opportunity for drawing near to You, and fulfill the promise of James that You will draw near to me in return.
