This evening we went to a São João Day festival (St. John) at the Lagoa de Itaenga. This is a traditional holiday in Brazil similar to our Thanksgiving. The night before the holiday people light large piles of wood along the streets. The smoke was really strong due to the humidity, and we could even smell it in our apartment. At the festival ... Paradise
Today we got to go to Coqueirinho Beach (pronounced co-kay-reen-you), and it was absolutely beautiful. We had a great day with total sunshine and very few clouds in the sky. Kari and I were both worried about getting sunburnt, so we used SPF 50 sunblock and didn’t end up getting much sun at all! One of the cool things we saw was a dead sea turtle. This thing was huge ... When will the rain end?
Today we took a trip to Recife to pick someone up from the airport. The weather here has been very rainy since we arrived on Sunday. Honestly, I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen so much rain in my life! From the moment we stepped out of the plane there has been nothing but torrential downpours with a few breaks for 20-30 minutes or so every once in a ... [Continue Reading]
I ‘ m at Orange!
For the past few days (since Tuesday) I have been at the Orange Conference in Atlanta learning about student and children's ministry. We've heard lots of good stuff from lots of good speakers, and my challenge now is to help the team of people from LifePoint whom I brought to put some of the ideas into practice when they return. I say when "they" return ... [Continue Reading]
Leaving is BUSY

However, we're starting a new e-newsletter that will be sent out monthly. If you're interested in receiving it, drop me a line, and I will add you to the ... [Continue Reading]
Day 1 of PFC

The majority of the day was spent learning about some personality instruments we took that can help us understand how we work in a team setting. Of particular interest for me was a meeting Kari ... Sorry for the lack of updates lately. We have been busy getting our latest newsletter out and preparing for our trip this week. I'll do my best to ... [Continue Reading]

A busy first day
Our first day for Candidate Orientation Program (COP hereafter) was great! We started bright and early at 7:15 for breakfast and concluded at 9:30 this evening after a counseling session! Needless to say, it was a busy day! There were two specific highlights of the day that are worth noting: "Uncle Jack" Frizen - Uncle Jack (as they refer to ... [Continue Reading]
