Over the past several weeks Kari and I have had a really good opportunity to make some Brazilian friends and experience the hospitality of this beautiful country. Last week a friend, Leo, who owns his own hair salon, invited us to come over for dinner and to watch a movie with him. We had pizza and cocada – an amazing Brazilian dessert that is made by cooking sweetened condensed milk, sugar, coconut, and powdered milk over a stove for about an hour. When we were leaving, Leo gave Kari a really nice plant for our apartment.
On Sunday, a member of our English gathering on Sunday mornings, Rony, invited us to his home for lunch. His mom made a dish called “feijuada”, which is a traditional Brazilian meal made with various types of pork and black beans. Rony has been studying the words to some of the English songs we sing on Sunday, so I pulled out my guitar, and we sang together for a while.
It has been a lot of fun going to the homes of our friends and to be blessed by their hospitality!
