Trusting the ADVENTURE Guide

October 1, 2009 By Seth Leave a Comment

Several weeks ago a thought came to my mind regarding one of the greatest ADVENTURERS of the Old Testament: David.  What's so fascinating about David is his uninhibited trust in his heavenly Father.  Though David was imperfect in his decisions, he never divided his worship of the Lord.  One of the most amazing passages of the Old Testament to me is when David is telling King Saul about how God will help him destroy Goliath.  In 1 Samuel 17:37 David says: The LORD who delivered me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.  That statement is incredible in and of itself, but consider the fact that David was probably about 15 years old when he said it!  He had an utter confidence that God was going to deliver him; he trusted the ADVENTURE Guide.
I have to confess that my level of trust in the Guide isn't always that great.  Today, however, He reminded me that I can trust Him.  This morning I was praying about all of the things we need to figure out before moving to Brazil, and I was reminding God that I know His will for us is better than my will for us – even though I forget that from time to time; I was reminding Him that He got us into all of this, and that I was trusting Him to bring us through.  Then something incredible happened.  I had an appointment to for a haircut this morning, and I started talking with Amanda (the woman who cuts my hair) about our woes of figuring out what to do with the house as far as renting it or selling it.  Then she said, "Oh, you should definitely rent it."  She then proceeded to give me all kinds of advice on renting, explaining that her husband and she rent 12 properties.  She even offered to give me copies of lease agreements that they've used, to help me with background checks, and to help out in any way she possibly could.  I have been sitting over here stressing out about how to even begin going about renting our house out, and God put someone there to answer my questions.  I told Amanda how I had been praying about this before getting my appointment and how God was using her as an answer to my prayers!  As I drove home I was reminded of a scene from The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe where Lucy is crying over Aslan, the Christ figure, offering himself over to death in Edmond's place.  Susan replies, "He must have known what He was doing."  I'm so glad that the ADVENTURE Guide is trustworthy, and I'm so thankful for those moments when He sends me reminders of His trustworthiness!  He knows what He's doing; I just have to trust Him.
