I'm learning in this ADVENTURE of moving to Brazil that my plans don't matter very much. Shouldn't that be true for all of us with whatever ADVENTURE God is taking us on? Sure, we can try to make the plans, but we never know what tomorrow holds. Proverbs 19:21 says, "Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the LORD that will stand," (ESV). If I was to write a book about the story of my life, I would not have included moving to Brazil to plant a church. The funny thing is that God didn't ask me what I wanted to do; He told me what He wanted me to do. The real issue was whether or not I was going to be willing to say "yes" to Him. We can make plans for our lives, and there's nothing wrong with that. After all, it's prudent to plan for the future. However, we cannot hold so tightly to our plans that we do not allow God to step in and redirect us with His plans. My plans are good; His plans are better. My plans focus on the temporal; His plans focus on the eternal. My plans include big dreams; His plans include dreams beyond my wildest imagination. I wrote in my journal the other day, "Father, this [verse] is a reminder for me today that I am not moving to Brazil on mission for me but on mission for You." Who cares what I want anyway? I wasn't placed on the earth for the glory of myself but for the glory of the One who put me here. Your ADVENTURE is not your own… so hold it loosely!
